There are also technical drawings of the turret and line drawings comparing the different variants. As an added bonus there are some very good photos of the 2S6 Tunguska - the Shilka's successor.

The Soviet T-80 Standard Tank was the last tank fielded before the Soviet collapse, and the most controversial. Like the US M1 Abrams tank, the T-80 used a turbine power plant rather than a conventional diesel. Although the design was blessed with some of the most sophisticated armament, fire controls, and multi-layer armor ever fielded on a Soviet tank, its power plant remained a source of considerable trouble through its career. It saw very little service in the Chechen War, though T-80 tanks were used in some of the regional conflicts in the former Soviet Union in the 1990s. Although the collapse of the Soviet Union might seem the end of the story, the T-80 lived on in Ukraine where one of its tank plants was based. A diesel powered version of the T-80 was developed, the T-84, which was successfully exported, including a major sale to Pakistan to counterbalance the Indian Army's Russian T-90 tanks. This is a photo album of destroyed Iraqi armor and other Iraqi equipment from the aftermath of the 1st Gulf war in 1991. It also features some of the defensive fortifications erected by the Iraqis.
British Tanks of World War II: France and Belgium, 1944 v. 1
This is the first volume of a 2-volume series depicting the British and Commonwealth armor at war in Europe. David Fletcher, a noted armor historian, is the author of this series. The photos came from the Tank Museum at Bovington. This book begins as the Allies prepared the crossing of the English Channel. D-Day saw the British and Commonwealth forces landed at Gold, Juno and Sword Beaches. DD Shermans and Funnies of the 79th Armoured Division formed the spearhead of the armor punch at Normandy. German reinforcements concentrated their efforts against the British and Canadians and Montgomery fought a hard battle around Caen, suffering heavy casualties. Battle then raged on at Falaise, trapping 60,000 Germans in a pocket. Montgomery then crossed the Seine and marched into Belgium. The British and Commonwealth troops used a great variety of tanks and vehicles. DD Sherman, Churchill, Firefly, Priest, Sexton, Cromwall, Centaur, Universal Carrier, Humber are a few of the armor featured in this book. The 16 color plates show the vehicles in view, clearing showing the colorful insignia and markings.

The T-72 and T-90 Tank (Concord 7508)

This book is a follow on to an earlier Concord book, T-72 (1004) that was first published in 1989. It brings the story up to date with coverage of the many new versions of this famous tank. The T-72 is the most widely produced main battle tank in the world today, and is being manufactured in 5 countries in a remarkable number of variants. In view of the bad reputation that the T-72 had received in the 1991 Gulf War and in Chechnya, the Russian plant renamed the newest versions of the T-72 as the T-90. A lot of variants are being developed in both the T-72 and T-90, including main battle tank, combat support vehicles, and special purpose vehicles. Challenger 1 & 2: Spearhead of the British Royal Armoured Corps (Concord 7505)
The British Royal Armoured Corps (RAC) was formed more than 60 years ago. The units of the RAC made their contribution to the end of the Cold War by fighting in the Gulf War, keeping peace in Bosnia and Kosovo, and supporting civil authority at home in Northern Ireland. The RAC, which provides the tank force to the British Army, is today composed of eight Challenger 1 and 2 regiments. When the British Army needed a replacement for the Chieftain tank fleet, it chose the ill-fated Shir Iran 2 MBT which was developed for Iran. Modifications were made and the new improved version was named Challenger. The first Challenger 1s were delivered to the British Army in 1983. The Challenger 1 is armed with the L11A5 120mm rifled gun, weighted 62 tons, and has a crew of four. During the Gulf War, Challenger tanks destroyed 300 enemy main battle tanks and an unknown number of armored vehicles. Further modifications to the Challenger resulted in the Challenger 2 which has up to date armor, mobility, firepower, and fire control technology. The main weapon is the easy to handle 120mm L30 Charm Gun. The first Challenger 2s were delivered to the RAC in 1998 and a total of 386 Challenger 2s will equip the British Army by the year 2002.
