This book addresses the critical relationship issues for a more collaborative and sustainable construction industry. e-Procurement: From Strategy to Implementation
e-Procurement is hot. And no wonder: companies are reporting that e-Procurement systems are saving them millions of dollars annually -- in some cases, billions. GE's Jack Welch claims that GE will save $10 billion dollars from e-procurement. Cisco Systems's John Chambers says it is Cisco's #1 priority. Now, there's a start-to-finish guide to implementing e-Procurement in any enterprise. Dale Neef covers it all -- from making the business case to architecting the solution, managing the risks to reaping the benefits. Neef begins with an up-to-the-minute overview of the promise of B2B e-procurement in supporting globalized, extended enterprises. He reviews the options for deploying e-Procurement, including internal solutions and e-Hubs; then identifies key issues associated with e-procurement in the enterprise. Learn how to make the business case for (or against) e-Procurement, and how to architect the optimal solution. You'll find detailed coverage of today's leading e-procurement technologies, including XML; and today's leading approaches, from ERP-based solutions to enterprise application integration. Neef covers the entire lifecycle of the e-Procurement initiative, identifying key pitfalls and areas of risk -- and proven solutions.

Lean supply chain management : a handbook for strategic procurement
This books provides an excellent detailed road map for taking Lean concepts to the supply chain. Many of the publications I've read summarize the success companies have had in implementing Lean concepts. This book goes well beyond that, outlining HOW to take Lean to the supply chain. The book includes a 5 phase process with step-by-step instructions for each phase. The real "jewel" in the book is the authors discussion of companies in a "crisis environment" versus companies in a "normal environment". Lean initiatives are often initiated as a result of a company finding itself in a "crisis". These initiatives fail because Lean practictioners are unable to recognize the need, or are unable to deliver, the quick results needed in a time of crisis. This book is a "must have" for anyone wanting to take Lean concepts to their supply chain.

A Purchasing Manager's Guide to Strategic, Proactive Procurement
David N. Burt, Richard L. Pinkerton
"Call it purchasing, supply management or sourcing, the role of procurement within organizations is changing significantly. Purchasing departments are moving at last from reactive to proactive status, responding to management demands that they add value to the enterprise rather than retain their traditional role as cost centers." "How can organizations maximize the advantages inherent in strategic procurement? At the same time, how can purchasing managers "catch up" and indeed facilitate this paradigm shift? The answer lies in the integrated procurement system (IPS) introduced in this book." "Drawing on 65 years as practitioners and professors of procurement, the authors employ a mix of action steps and dramatic case studies to show you how IPS aggressively seeks out added value at four key stages: 1. Determining what to buy; 2. Identifying and developing appropriate relationships with desired sources of supply; 3. Obtaining the lowest costs for purchasing and converting materials/services; and 4. Ensuring the quality, quantity, and timeliness of the procured materials." "A truly universal system, IPS is being successfully adopted by forward-thinking manufacturers, service firms, governments, hospitals, and construction companies. Similarly, IPS encompasses every department from engineering and inventory control to marketing and finance. Each sector will find detailed applications in this book."--BOOK JACKET
